Christ Jesus

From Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy

In divine Science, man is the true image of God. The divine nature was best expressed in Christ Jesus, who
threw upon mortals the truer reflection of God and lifted their lives higher than their poor thought-models would allow, — thoughts which presented man as fallen, sick, sinning, and dying. The Christlike understanding of scientific being and divine healing includes a perfect Principle and idea, — perfect God and perfect man, — as the basis of thought and demonstration.

Who can benefit from prayer

From Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
“To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings”

"Divine Love always has met, and always will meet every human need."

"In divine Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail themselves of God as 'a very present help in trouble.' Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, 'Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters.'"

Examples of healing through prayer

Mary Baker Eddy Christian Healer - Christian Science Publishing Society 1998
"Neck cancer healed (1878 – 1883)
"While walking one day, Mrs. Eddy observed a small boy drawing another and a younger child in a little cart. [The older boy] replied: "He is my brother and he has never walked." Mrs. Eddy looked into the swee face and beautiful blue eyes of the little boy lying flat on his back in the cart, his legs dangling over the edge, limp and helpless. ... she said the sense of the perfect child of God was so clear to her that the boy slid out of the cart and went running down the street, saying: "See me yun(run)!"

The Bible: New Testament      Matthew 8:
5 ¶ And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion,
beseeching him,
6 And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.
7 And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.
8 The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come
under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.
13 And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it
done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.

The Bible: Old Testament      II Kings 20:
1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. …
2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the Lord, saying,
3 I beseech thee, O Lord, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with
a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
4 And it came to pass, afore Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, that the word of
the Lord came to him, saying,
5 Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of my people, Thus saith the Lord, the God of
David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will heal thee: on
the third day thou shalt go up unto the house of the Lord.
6 And I will add unto thy days fifteen years;

     With God

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
"As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and
man, Father and son, are one in being. The Scripture reads: 'For in Him we live, and
move, and have our being.'"

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
“Never contract the horizon of a worthy outlook by the selfish exaction of all another’s time
and thoughts. With additional joys, benevolence should grow more diffusive.

Miscellaneous Writings 1883 - 1896 by Mary Baker Eddy
“To love, and to be loved, one must do good to others”.

“Where the motive to do right exists, and the majority of one's acts are right, we should
avoid referring to past mistakes.”

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
“Beauty, wealth, or fame is incompetent to meet the demands of the affection, and should
never weigh against the better claims of intellect, goodness, and virtue.”

The Bible - Matthew 5:
43 ¶ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine
enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them
that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun
to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

The Bible – Luke 6:
31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

Life

Miscellaneous Writings 1883 - 1896 by Mary Baker Eddy
“Success in life depends upon persistent effort, upon the improvement of moments more
than upon any other one thing.
A great amount of time is consumed in talking nothing, doing nothing, and indecision as to
what one should do. If one would be successful in the future, let him make the most of the
present.”

“Rushing around smartly is no proof of accomplishing much.”

Gratitude

Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy
“Are we really grateful for the good already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the
blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more. Gratitude is much more than a
verbal expression of thanks. Action expresses more gratitude than speech.”

The Bible - Philippians 4:6
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let
your requests be made known unto God.
